March 3rd marks “World Freedom Day” an annual event where musicians, music clubs, cultural institutions, broadcasters and media join Freemuse in the celebration of freedom of musical expression. In this most recent interview with Reuters Deeyah says that “Music is a fundamental part of all our cultures, our history and our identity. It’s not just light entertainment that doesn’t need protection,” adding that “It is in many countries the only way for people to express themselves or even rebel.”
